Although I am not a parent yet, I am certainly acutely aware of the amount of time that parents spend working, taking care of the kids, cleaning up, and finally, last but not least, sleeping. But unfortunately for many families in this day and age, cooking just doesn't find its way into the equation.
So first of all, congratulations to you for taking up this challenge to not only try cooking for yourself and your family, but also to try and make a positive impact in your and your family's health and wellbeing. It's not easy to get out of the habit of poor eating, but believe me, when you do, you'll never look back.
Here at Betr, we work with you. This means tailoring your specific nutrition goals around your goals as well as your limitations, so that you can get the very most out of our program.
For those of you who have trouble finding the time to cook, we have several suggestions for you guys to use to help maximize the amount of fresh foods that you can pack into your diet on the daily.
- Utilize the weekends:
It might sound crazy, but cooking doesn't just have to be a parent standing at the counter working while everyone else is out. Make cooking a family affair! Not only will you be able to make meals faster, but you'll make memories along the way- and you'll be surprised at how much kids will want to help out.
- Plan it out:
Treat meals like appointments- put on the calendar the week before what you're going to have what night, and then stick to the plan- you can even make the meals beforehand to freeze until the night of if you're worried about time prep.
- Keep it simple
Sometimes less really is more- stop worrying about all those crazy spices and herbs that really don't make a difference when it comes to the overall meal- just focus on the main ingredients in the recipe, and then add a little seasoning as you like; believe me, your family won't notice the difference.
