Tips After Surgery

After surgery, it's important to give your body what it needs to heal. That includes choosing the right kinds of food for your body. These diet tips can help you feel better and recover faster.

First Few Days

After the first several days it's common not to have much of an appetite. Start with small snacks and meals high in protein and vitamin C, such as oranges, cottage cheese, pumpkin seeds, and hard-boiled eggs, and add 1 tbs. of chia seeds to a water bottle. Easily digestible soup options, such as egg drop and chicken soup, are a great way to get the digestive tract rolling. Ice chips are also beneficial and drinking lots of water may help reduce feelings of nausea. Be sure to avoid raw veggies in the early days as these can be harder for the body to digest.

Stabilizing Your Diet

As you start to feel stronger with each passing day, start to increase portion sizes and routine Level 1 snack and meals. Keep in mind that it may take some time to re-stabilize your diet, so don't pay attention to weight on the scale until your body has fully healed.
