Healthy Skin
Let's face it, our outer appearance reflects our internal health. Glowing, blemish-free skin is one of the many benefits of having a healthy lifestyle.
More Than Skin Deep
Blood that’s supplied with the right nutrients replenishes every cell in your body, which is mirrored in each pore. Achieving this is no easy task in today’s toxin-filled world. Optimizing your nutrient intake by cleansing dangerous substances from your body creates a stable environment allowing for radiant skin.
The carotenoid pigments your body absorbs from vegetables are crucial. These plant pigments are powerful antioxidants that soak up toxic compounds produced when your body combats diseases. They are also important for your immune and reproductive systems and may help prevent cancer.
There are six main organs that are responsible for how the skin appears:
Kidneys
Liver
Adrenals
Thyroid
Large intestines
Small intestines
The liver and kidneys filter out any toxic impurities in your body. Keep in mind that if you’re consuming processed garbage, these two organs can easily become less efficient if they are continually overworked.
The small adrenal glands are located on top of your kidneys. Although they are small in size, they’re often called the “workhorses” of your body because they make so many essential hormones including pregnenolone, DHEA, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
Healthy hormones are an essential part of having beautiful skin. A well-nourished thyroid produces important hormones and works closely with the adrenals to create energy. Dry or flaky skin is evidence of a weak thyroid.
Your liver, kidneys, adrenals, and thyroid are all dependent on the condition of your small and large intestines. These two organs not only provide nutrients to the other organs, but they also remove the waste products from your body. When waste that should have been disposed of remains in your intestines, your skin becomes more thick and oily, which leads to blemishes. Clear skin is a reflection of clean intestines.
The following items should be avoided if you want clearer, healthier skin:
Drugs and alcohol
Chemicals and heavy metals
Trans fat
Refined, processed table salt
Processed foods
Pasteurized dairy products
Instead of consuming these harmful and toxic items, we recommend substituting them for foods rich in minerals and antioxidants that promote healthy organ function, such as dark green leafy veggies and seafood. By keeping your insides healthy and clean, your skin will have no choice but to follow this trend.
In addition, maintaining a healthy diet and being able to effectively cope with stress will also help you achieve glowing, youthful skin. Supporting research shows how people deal with stress has a greater impact on their appearance than genetic makeup.
Stop Stressing
Significant levels of stress lessen your organ's ability to function properly, which dramatically affects the skin. Extended exposure to stress can also accelerate the aging process of your skin cells, causing them to die at a faster rate than normal.
Studies have found those who had been through a stressful divorce looked at least two years older than their married, single, or even widowed twin.
In a nutshell, having a clean, youthful appearance on the outside involves both a healthy diet supporting your internal cleansing mechanisms, and always effectively coping with your stress by not letting it build up.
The sooner you start to make these positive changes — to your stress levels, mental outlook, and your diet — the better. Whether you’re young or old, this healthy lifestyle can help maintain a beautiful complexion and keep the signs of aging at bay, or at least slow them down considerably.
Skincare Tricks
Our skin is a perfect representation of what we eat, how we feel, and what we apply to our skin. In this blog, we are sharing our top five heavy skin care tricks!
Lotion Up: Daily moisturizing is important to keep our skin healthy. While there is an array of skincare products on the market, there are only a few brands that manufacture pure skincare products free of toxic chemicals. Don’t put anything on your skin that you cannot pronounce! Our Farm To Face skincare line is 100% organic and free of toxins – your skin will love it!
Cut the Junk Food: We are what we eat and if you’re putting fast food and other junk food into your body, it should never be a surprise that your skin might start to break out. Too much sugar and greasy fat can bring out those unwanted zits. Eliminate those foods from your diet, replace them with organic fruits and vegetables, add in water, and your skin will transform in no time.
Sleep Tight: A good night's sleep is more important than you might think. It’s vital to one’s health and a lack thereof has shown to have a direct impact on one’s weight (i.e. those who are sleep-deprived gain weight easier and/or have a harder time losing weight). A lack of sleep is putting unnecessary stress on the body and some of us might react to this stress with breakouts. Try to get enough sleep and give your body the much-needed nightly rest.
Eat your Veggies and Fruits: Want healthy, blemish- and zit-free-looking skin? Instead of purchasing numerous skincare products filled with toxins that do more harm than good, opt for a pure skincare line and simply eat your veggies and fruit! Are you neither a fan of cooking nor a fan of making your own smoothies? Try our Greens Super Food! Just 2 scoops will get you 5 to 10 servings of greens, fruits, and vegetables. Cheers!
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Water is the essence of life. Instead of drinking sugary drinks that contain lots of hidden calories, just opt for water. An extra H20 boost will not only help your body to flush out toxins and help with weight loss but will also hydrate your skin to get that glow.
Makeup: Did you know that about 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed? If you aren’t careful about which beauty products, body lotions, deodorants, shampoos, or nail polishes to use, you might be absorbing a lot of toxic chemicals in the process.
The Ugly Truth about Beauty Products:
According to the Breast cancer fund, the average American woman uses 12 beauty products every day, and in this process, she exposes herself to 127 chemicals. Many of these chemicals are considered toxic and can cause cancer, infertility, and birth defects just to name a few. Industrial chemicals are used in our everyday beauty products – these same chemicals are used to grease gears, stabilize plastic, and sterilize surgical tools.
There are almost 13,000 chemicals used in cosmetic products, and only 10 percent of those have been researched for health safety. While the European Union has banned 1,300 harmful chemicals from cosmetic products, the US has only banned 11. This means the other 1,289 toxic chemicals banned in Europe are currently incorporated in the products you might be using today.
Reckless Regulation:
The scary part is how little our cosmetic products are regulated by the government. Under the law, cosmetic products and ingredients do not need FDA premarket approval. Therefore, cosmetic companies don’t have to prove their product is safe before they release it to the market – meaning they can put almost anything in it!
The FDA seems to have an “out of sight, out of mind” approach by making each individual company responsible for ensuring their manufactured cosmetics are safe. So while cosmetic companies are supposed to have safe products, there are no required safety demonstrations of products or ingredients.
What to Avoid:
Bottom line, always read the ingredient labels – the fewer in a product the better!
Remember to STAY AWAY from the word “fragrance” in any ingredient list because this one word could be hiding dozens of toxic chemicals!
Betr Face To Farm:
To provide the best alternatives for toxic-free products, we recently created our own skincare line that is so natural you can even eat it! (Although we wouldn’t recommend it).
Our rule is simple: Don’t put something on your face that you wouldn’t put into your mouth! We only use pure and organic ingredients.
