The Chia Seed comes from a desert plant originating in Central America where the seed was a staple in the Aztec diet.  The seed is extremely high in Omega 3 fatty acids and protein so they are effective at lowering blood sugar and reducing risk factors for heart disease.  They also are loaded with fiber, so they could be a help for regulating digestion.  Add them to boost a smoothie or replace an animal protein with 3 tbsp chia seeds for a vegetarian option.

In addition, these little seeds absorb 10 times their weight in water, so if there are times meals and snacks get delayed, 1 tsp in your water bottle will keep hunger at bay and delay starvation mode.
